A systemic culture of 'statistical deception' operates within the UK Government & the Bank of England

Iain Duncan Smith, Minister For Deception - has taken a leaf out of Hitler's book 'Mein Kampf' - "The bigger the lie, the more it will be believed" & twisted it around!

The Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith has been caught lying 'yet again' about the government's vicious welfare policies this week - this time by the official statistics watchdog. Smith's department claimed in April that the number of people set to be hit by his cap on benefits had fallen from 56,000 to 40,000, with 8,000 of those people finding work through job centres.

But the UK Statistics Agency stated that the claim was "unsupported" by his own department's numbers - the Tory minister used the deceptive statistics to claim the cap was "clearly having the desired impact."

Meanwhile the
Bank of England governor Mark Carney says 'UK rates will be held until unemployment falls'.

Mr Carney announced that interest rates will remain at a record low of 0.5 per cent until high unemployment figures are brought to below 7 per cent. Outlining his strategy of "forward guidance," the new chief of Britain's central bank predicted that won't happen until at least 2016 due to government inaction.

The problem is: there has been & continues in place a systemic culture of 'fiddling of the books' within government departments & 'big business'. Within the DWP the true statistical unemployment figure in Britain, has been altered so many times - it fundamentally lacks credibility.

The recent economic collapse was due to 'vulture capitalists' speculating, using statistical deception to deceive other investors - 'fiddling the books' !!

BoE's Mark Carney
said: The Bank of England needs to ensure that Britain's banks change their culture:

He went on to say: "The cultural issue is fundamentally important. There has to be a change in the culture of these institutions. This is the weakest recovery on record. There are a million more people unemployed today than before this financial crisis and many who have jobs would like to work more than they currently can".

Our question to the governor is this: How can the general public trust politicians, bankers & government ministers when a systemic culture of deception continues to operate ?  Mark Carney your comments regarding unemployment is nothing more than 'hot air' !

Corporate business use clever accounting practices to avoid paying tax, the governor & government continues to use 'statistical deception' regarding the state of the economy.

When government ministers & bankers make up evidence to justify their policies, it's an indication of their desperation and their unsuitability for office.Whether being caught out three times by the UK Statistics Authority for the same offence makes Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith a serial offender is up for debate. But it also shows that no-one should invest trust in his analysis of data without seeking a second or third opinion.

He was criticised in January 2012 for misrepresenting the scale of benefits claimed by immigrants and in 2010 for "serious deficiencies" in his handling of housing statistics. It could be that Duncan Smith is just not very good at figures, although this would jar with his self-praise of having based ministerial practice on his experience in the private sector - otherwise known as being given a job by his father-in-law.

In any case, anyone lacking expertise in analysing statistics would normally seek assistance or even read a document fully to avoid falling into the trap of drawing conclusions against which there was an explicit health warning. The unavoidable inference is that Duncan Smith didn't read the Ad-hoc Statistics on JobCentre Plus Activity document fully, didn't understand it or understood it but decided to misrepresent it.

The temptation to draw false conclusions is strong because he had a vested interest in making people believe that bringing in a £26,000-a-year benefit cap had spurred 8,000 people to stop claiming and get a job. Duncan Smith's problem is that it wasn't true, but unemployed people claiming benefits have a bigger problem of his making. His assertion chimes with government propaganda that there are plenty of jobs available and that too many people opt to live on benefits as a "lifestyle choice."

This self-serving lie absolves the conservative coalition government of responsibility for the level of unemployment and transfers the onus onto the jobless themselves, feeding an image of feckless families refusing to work rather than portraying the reality of a capitalist system that cannot provide the number of jobs necessary.

Respect For the Unemployed & Benefit Claimants demands an apology from the Work and Pensions Secretary to both unemployed workers & Parliament for his deceptive slur against them. There's an obvious need for a welfare system that guards against abuse, but, in reality, fraudulent claims are a drop in the ocean as a proportion of the welfare bill - just 0.7 per cent of total benefit expenditure or £1.2 billion, which is slightly below the amount of underpayments paid to legitimate claimants.

We therefore call upon the 'Speaker of the House of Commons' to: Expel Iain Duncan Smith.

After being outed as a liar, and after more than 100,000 people signed a petition calling for him to be held to account, Iain Duncan Smith has been called before - Parliament's 'Work and Pensions Committee' to be held to account for 'statistical deception'.

We NOW learn that he will, after all, be appearing to give evidence before the committee on the production and release of the Department for Work and Pensions - DWP statistics in September, despite evading that committee & having been postponed in June & July.

If he won’t defend himself, then he must stand guilty of the offence. This brings us to the question of the penalty he should pay.

Respect For the Unemployed & Benefit Claimants refers to the following & makes this 'public statement': "Under British Parliamentary Convention: There is an offence, here in the UK, known as Contempt of Parliament. An MP is guilty of this if he or she deliberately misleads Parliament, and any MP accused of the offence may be suspended or expelled.

He must either admit that he lied to Parliament and to the people - in order to justify his despicable treatment of the most vulnerable people in this country… therefore he must be expelled from Parliament like the disgrace that he is.

Point of reference: If any MP is found to have lied & deceived the 'House of Commons' an MP can then be expelled from parliament: http://www.cps.gov.uk/legal/l_to_o/misconduct_in_public_office/#a010

We hereby DEMAND the so-called honourable member Iain Duncan Smith a leading figure within the Conservatives be expelled from the House of Commons, Palace of Westminster"

Who are the real scroungers ? Tens of billions of pounds are not received every year from wealthy individuals and corporations by dint of government-approved tax avoidance schemes, including the use of tax havens. The government has promised to crack down on "aggressive" tax avoidance, which David Cameron & Downing Street calls "inappropriate," but it is difficult to square this with his government's constant staff reductions at HMRC.

Certainly there has been no top-level campaign to abolish offshore tax havens, over half of which are subject to the Crown. But barely a day passes without the right-wing mass media running flesh-crawling stories about claimants, often born overseas, ripping off the taxpayer. This one-sided approach underpins the symbiotic relationship between media and politicians, encouraging unscrupulous politicians to make it up as they go along to peddle the anti-working class agenda they share.

Our advice to the Bank of England governor Mark Carney .....seek the truth, end the 'statistical deception' within all sectors of business. Bringing economic stability requires credible statistics regarding the true state of the economy - don't believe the
'statistical deception' regarding the 'unemployment' situation in Britain.
Learn the lessons of history OR we risk repeating it - don't believe or accept the 'blame game of hatred' !!

Adolf Hitler in his book Mein Kampf stated & blamed Jews using the phrase: "the principle & which is quite true in itself & that in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily,"

The Jewish people in the 1930's were NOT to blame, the unemployed are NOT to blame, the disabled are NOT to blame - the blame is firmly at the door of CAPITALISM - the whole rotten system needs replacing !!

Having looked at the history of world war two and before as far back as 1933 when Hitler took power, i find a staggering amount of parallels between the nazis and the tories. Goebbels mirrored by cameron, smith and osbourne but smith reminds me more of Reinhard Heydrich or heinrich himler. The tories today are proof that the Nazis never really lost and the 70000000 died for nothing.

I'm unsure as to the accuracy of the quote, as stated by the poster above, but I don't think there's any question that the current Government is running frighteningly parallel to the rise of the Nazis in Germany. The Nazis also introduced harsh Work Capability Assessments and those deemed fit for work (even though they probably weren't) were forced out to work and those that genuinely couldn't work....well....we all know what happened to them. The Nazis portrayed the sick and disabled as workshy and 'useless eaters'. Once this idea took hold with the German people it was easier for the Nazis to 'remove' these unwnated burdens from their society. We're hearing much of the same rhetoric from this Tory-led government and the idea is, scarily, taking hold with the British people. We're starting to read stories about disability hate crmes and the like and the government is intent on portraying us as 'useless eaters', just like the Nazis did. This has nothing to do with Godwin's Law (which I'm fully aware of), these are frightening facts about where we're actually heading. When disabled claimants start committing suicide you just know that this is all part of the plan to shrink the Welfare State. How can you shrink the Welfare State without getting people off benefits? And if work isn't an option to get a disabled person off benefits, the next best thing is suicide, because that reduces the number of claimants. Wake up and smell the coffee, people.

Why is has no one person ever asked why these political parties are being allowed to stealing the National Insurance Contributions that we have paid in to the system at the class 1 rate, which allows people to have these benefits, when out of work, sick and disabled. These MP’s do not pay it, the self employed do not pay the class one rate; all of them get full benefits, even the NHS, and they are not paying for any part of it?

The only way to stop these corrupt political parties is to make our country a Republic! Abolish the present political system and its present MP, who are no longer required. The only reason that they are in power is for their own lust of greed for more wealth, at the cost of all the working classes. Nothing has ever been given to us; we have paid for it, with our blood, and lives.

The Republic must come from the people, policed by the people, and are to take back from the plutocrats, their lands, and wealth. It must happen now.

Stop these corrupt MP’s from doing to our people what the German Nazi party did to their very own people; they kill3ed 15 million of those that did not agree with them. Do not do what the Jews did, and let them kill you!

Atos declared me fit for work in November last year. and with no warning my benefit was slashed to zero pounds. I've arthritis throughout my spine due to heavy manual labour. I'm in constant pain. im appealing against the decision and my tribunal is in June. thats 7 months with no money whatsoever. If it wasn't for my mother i would either be dead or in prison. i received a frightening letter 3 days ago stating that my ESA will be stopped in June as I can only claim ESA for 12 months. what the hell am i supposed to do when they stop my benefit even tho im confident i will win at the tribunal? it seems millions will be made homeless and sentenced to starvation due to this heartless, shameful, un-Christian policy. don't the Tory scum realize this will lead to civil disturbance and a massive soar in crime rate figures as people are forced to commit crime just to survive

You can claim ESA - Income related after 12 months, and after 12 weeks you can re claim ESA support group. I think you may have to state a change in your condition, but with your condition it is a deteriorating one...not going to get better is it!!

You can claim ESA Income related instead after 12 months. you can re claim ESA support group again after 12 weeks, may have to say change in your condition, not sure. they should have sent you a letter which said you may be entitled to other benefits

Same for me I got sent for last Friday to b told my incapacity benefit will stop in July..no letter,.nuthin..the best bit is they sd they're aware I'm not fit for work, but have to take my benefit away coz of,12month ruling..I can't claim job seekers coz I'm not fit for work...which they agreed on..I think suicide rates will go up with the unfair way genuine people r being treated and the pressure that's getting piled on...people have,no where to turn if ur a genuine case..
Why pay school leavers job seekers, they havnt paid into it, but quite happy to sit bk n take all that's going..
Bridges will become hotspots for desperate people to end the frustration and hhopelessness of their predicament..

THE TORIES WILL HAVE BLOOD ON THEIR HANDS....again!!!!

Plenty of anonymous comments on here and as such I will follow the trend. Before I start I must saythat I AM NOT A TORY!

My point is that this is a failing with ALL politicians and when making points regarding people leaving benefits have always been flawed due to no consistent method of recording such data. I have dealt with people affected by the cuts and have examples of those that have (a) started work (b) disappeared of register & (c) continue to claim with extra support from myself and others.

So whilst IDS may have been wrong, I am sure that many reports on the success or otherwise of these cuts will have large differences as they are often guesswork and gut feeling.
