Parliamentary 'representative democracy' - who do they represent ?

This week has seen the biggest assault on the 'Welfare State' since it's creation, causing unimaginable hardship for the British People - meanwhile the Conservatives & their MPs want a £31,000 pay rise !

Recently the House of Commons  voted to ignore a High Court ruling on 'Workfare'!

Hundreds thousand benefit claimants we're robbed that day, as the Conservatives with the help of the Liberal Democrats introduced a 'Retroactive Law'

That retroactively change the law to undo a court judgement against the government. With the exception of only 57 MPs who voted against it, both the Government and the Opposition supported a bill which denied justice to 300,000 benefit claimants.
  
They rushed through a retroactive law to rob £130 million from the most vulnerable in our society who were due repayments of unlawful benefit sanctions.

In our opinion the real 'benefit scroungers' sit in the House of Commons a product of a 'Benefit Culture' within the upper elite in Britain.

Our question is this .....  who does 'Representative Democracy' represent ?

Asda's exploitation of benefit claimants - a trade union issue !

Asda Walmart - continues exploitation of British benefit claimants !

Our campaign will not end until you end your abuse of benefit claimants 'forced' to work for free.

These programmes mean unemployed people are compelled to work for their benefits - or their benefit is cut. These schemes punish the unemployed, attack all workers' wages and conditions and actually cause more unemployment, due to the replacement of paid workers by unpaid labour.

** This is already happening to the unemployed in America, 'free' slave labour for ultra cheap, they get a measly $200-$400 a month that works out at £132.74 - £265.56 in summing up Walmart get 20-30 hours a week they don't need to pay for, and people say we're not SLAVES! **

Benefit claimants forced to work Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve - Asda wanted to avoid huge wage bill by sending home paid staff!

If an unemployed worker is placed onto mandated unpaid work on threat of losing even the tiny income of £53/week benefits, they are in a position where they can easily be exploited.

Workfare workers were forced to work Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve while paid workers were sent home:  A store with between 10 and 15 benefit claimants on DWP work experience noticed that not long after they started 'their unpaid work; - 'paid staff' were being sent home early while unpaid workers remained.

Trade union members & paid workers at ASDA & other work places will see their working hours reduced, their pay reduced & their jobs undermined - workfare is an issue for both those in work & those out of work. United together we must defend those who face exploitation !

CONTEMPTIBLE behaviour:

Welfare changes this April saw local authorities take over the running of Emergency Welfare Loans and Grants, formally know as the Social Fund Budgeting Loans & Grants, which are meant to help people deal with crises such as leaking roofs, broken boilers and lack of food.

The Department for Work and Pensions said it would no longer administer social fund payments centrally, Birmingham City Council said that, unlike other councils, it had decided not to give out small one-off cash grants and loans from its newly devolved £6.1m fund.

Instead repayable loans would be placed exclusively on 'Asda pre-payment' debit cards.  

Labour Party controlled authority said the cards – which Asda said were similar to their gift cards – would restrict spending to a list of predetermined goods, which would exclude tobacco, alcohol, phone-related expenditure and fuel.
Birmingham City Council, which represents around 1 million people, said that from 1 April Monday it would give out 'Crisis Loan' payments in the form of prepaid cards that could be redeemed ONLY in Asda supermarkets.

A 'Crisis Loan' from the social fund has to be paid back by benefit claimants, but you can only spend the money in ASDA !

British Parliament - a pay rise for them, workfare & poverty pay for us !

This week has seen the biggest assault on the 'Welfare State' since it's creation, causing unimaginable hardship for the British People - meanwhile the Conservatives & their MPs want a £31,000 pay rise !

We hear Boris Johnson 'above' tell us about his second job, writing articles once a week on a Sunday for a staggering £250,000 a year - he calls this amount 'Chickenfeed'

Apparently British MPs are struggling to make ends meet on £65,738 a year. The so-called Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) says 70% of MPs claim they deserve a +32% pay rise, potentially lifting salaries to £86,250.

Contemptuously a further 20% of MPs thought remuneration of at least £95,000 a year was deserving.

In hard economic times & when benefit claimants are being demonised as benefit scroungers, forced to WAIT seven days before being able to claim benefits after losing a job. Respect For the Unemployed & Benefit Claimants examined the House of Commons  & the House of Lords to identify if we really are 'All in this Together' as David Cameron would have us believe.

Working with various organisations & studying the ultra complex system of payments, that so-called honourable members of the British Parliament & the House of Lords accumulate became staggering - our conclusion, we are governed by contemptuous  millionaires !!

Ex-Cabinet minister and Labour  MP Jack Straw thinks the time for an MP's increase is as good as any.

Most MPs believe they are undervalued, with a third of them apparently thinking they should be on over £80,000 a year, which might not arouse such fury were it not for their readiness to slash the living standards of their constituents.

There is a decent minority of MPs in the House of Commons who have steadfastly opposed front-bench acceptance of the bankers' case that the working class should pay for their recklessness.

There are many others for whom grinding the poor to give succour to the rich is the natural order.

The 99% in Britain are struggling in chronic poverty, unable to pay bills, buy quality food items. Meanwhile both the House of Commons & the House of Lords enjoy privilege beyond imagination. 

These Lords & MP's hold many assets - (many hidden from public view), including savings & (second income wages). There are Lords & MP's who gain extra payments from industrial lobbyist.

An un-honourable House of Commons

Benefit Claimants are quite rightly 'angry' at those who sit in an 'undemocratic & an unelected House of Lords. Those MP's & those who sit in the Lords firmly believe it's OK to hold two jobs & enjoy a subsidised restaurant & bar.

In contrast benefit claimants are struggling to buy food, pay bills or 'even get the benefit payments'.

We are forced to work for free under 'Workfare' or risk benefit suspension for up-to 3 years.

This in our opinion is a product of a 'Benefit Culture' in Britain, the real benefit scroungers sit in the House of Commons.   

Cruel & vindictive government welfare cuts that came into force this week will heap even more misery on Britain's poorest. The Conservatives & Liberal Democrats assault will hit millions of families, with low-paid workers, the unemployed and disabled people bearing the brunt.

The tax and benefit changes will leave families nearly £900 worse off on average according to the Institute for Fiscal Studies.

Meanwhile David Cameron and George Osborne are giving millionaires an average £100,000 tax cut."

The bedroom tax, changes to council tax benefit and the replacement of the disability living allowance will all have a devastating effect. It will disproportionately hit disabled people.

UK's poorest households face a bleak April as they struggle to budget for all these cuts coming at once. People are already cutting back on the essentials of food and heating but there is only so much they can do.

The result will be misery - cold rooms, longer queues at food banks, broken families, missed rent payments and yet more people facing homelessness - devastating for those directly affected, but bad for us all.

A wasted generation, Europe's unemployed - capitalism in crisis!

Europe's unemployment figures were published today. In Greece, the unemployment rate is 26.2% (December 2012 figure), Spain, has a rate of 26.3%' and Portugal, with a rate of 17.5%.

Perhaps the most disturbing figure is for youth unemployment. The average rate for the under 25s in the EU is 23.5%. Nearly a quarter of Europe's youth are not working. In Spain the figure is 55.7%. So far Europe's young people have been remarkably tolerant of unemployment levels reminiscent of the Great Depression.

A staggering 188,000 young workers aged under 25 joined the ranks of the unemployed in February -  in these circumstances you're getting to the point at which social unrest is highly likely, because youngsters coming out of school and universities just can't find jobs.

The rate of unemployment in the eurozone has hit a record high of 12%, official figures have shown. The number of people unemployed in the 17 member states rose by 33,000 during February, to hit 19.07 million, the statistics agency Eurostat said.

The rise in unemployment was the 22nd in a row, making this labour market downturn the most prolonged since the early 1990s - further confirmation of the underlying weakness of the economy. The eurozone economy is still in recession, having contracted yet again in the three consecutive quarters.

The explosion in unemployment and the increasing precariousness for young Europeans are creating an unsustainable situation. The equilibrium of European society is being shaken. Only a change of economic and political governance can improve employment and training for young people . We need to change direction urgently.

Five months ago in December 2012, 5.702 million young people under the age of 25 were out of work in the European Union, of which 3,624 million were in the euro zone. We need investment in youth to give them training and access to quality jobs.

Thousands gathered in rallied at the Parc du Cinquantenaire in Brussels to say no austerity and yes to jobs.

Bernadette Ségol, ETUC general secretary, said: “Austerity is a failure. It has not succeeded in reducing deficits and is having a devastating social and economic effect. Applied in a deteriorating economic context, this blind austerity has only worsened the situation. It has widened inequalities and further increased the loss of job security. The social models are coming under attack because of the crisis. Everywhere in Europe, employment is becoming precarious and wages are being revised downwards. The European trade union rally that we are organising today will concentrate on two priorities: the end of austerity and the fight against youth unemployment.”

Iain Duncan Smith - we demand you live on £53 a week !

Iain Duncan Smith said today on BBC Radio 4's The Today Programme. "The reality is that successive governments have come in and when they've had a problem they've cut welfare bills and then later on they've ballooned again,"

"What I'm trying to do... is to change the process so that we end up restructuring the culture so that people find that work always pays. It doesn't right now."

When asked if he could live on £53 a week, in response to a question posed by a working benefits claimant, Smith said: "If I had to I would."

Following the interview, a petition hosted on Change.org was set up, challenging the secretary of state to "prove his claim". By 18:00 BST on Monday, the number of signatories had reached more than 30,000.

Market trader David Bennett, 51, who works between 50 and 70 hours a week and earned around £2,700 last year, said his housing benefit had been cut from £75 a week to £57. His income works out at around £53 per week.

Speaking to the Today programme's John Humphrys, he explained that the reforms are "about holding back on the costs". He said that the government "is modernising the welfare system so that work always pays.

The Conservatives & Liberal Democrats in government are deliberately misusing evidence and statistics to misrepresent the plight of the poor, a report says.   

The Methodist United Reformed Church, the Church of Scotland and the Baptist Union jointly published the The Lies We Tell Ourselves study - 'click here to download report'.

Researchers said evidence had been skewed to put the blame for poverty at the door of the poor themselves. The government said it had always made it clear that the system was failing people, not the other way around.

The churches said that a number of "myths" about welfare claimants have arisen as a result of statistics being misused. These are repeated by the media and find their way into the popular consciousness.

The myths, pin the blame for poverty directly on those who rely on welfare benefits while ignoring more complex reasons. These incorrect ideas must be challenged, according to Paul Morrison from the Methodist Church.

He said: "Everybody is complicit - politicians, the media and the general public.

"This is because we have a culture which allows us to tell lies in public life."

Mr Morrison said many people preferred to believe that bad things only happen to "bad people".

The report challenged several misleading ideas about welfare and poverty.

Demolition of the Welfare State in the UK - Attack on Legal Aid system !

In 2013 yet again under the Conservative Party along with the help of the Liberal Democrats have set in motion the ideological war against another pillar of the Welfare State.

Legal aid in its current form was created by the Legal Advice and Assistance Act 1949, part of a sweeping programme of social reforms ushered in by the post-war Labour Government.

In this context, the 1949 Act was almost as fundamental a step towards social
justice as the introduction of state-backed healthcare and reflected the spirit of the Clement Attlee  administration's creation of the welfare state.

By the 1980s the political climate under the Conservatives in government had become less friendly to legal aid.

In 1986, the Legal Aid Board was set up to take over the administration of publicly-funded legal services from the Law Society.

The changes coming into force today (Monday 1st April) see public funding removed from entire areas of civil law, including some family cases.

The Law Society, which represents solicitors has issued dire warning regarding today's attack. Barristers have also expressed concern.

Areas which will no longer qualify for funding include family cases where couples are divorcing and sorting out living arrangements for their children, unless there is proven domestic violence.

Advice on employment and education law; personal injury and some clinical negligence cases; immigration where the person is not detained; and debt and housing problems will also no longer qualify.

The Law Society says "people could start taking the law into their own hands as a result of an inability to seek justice following the government's civil legal aid cuts".

Department for Work and Pensions secretary Iain Duncan Smith would have us all believe that families with children are denied council accommodation because smaller families are selfishly occupying houses and flats too big for their needs.

The UK government estimate of 660,000 households will be facing the realities of  the 'pay up or get out' home ultimatum - in our opinion is a vast underestimate of the real total, which look set to be over 900,000. Most of the 900,000 families concerned, 30 per cent of whom are in low-paid jobs qualifying them for welfare benefits, will not choose to move from workplaces or from neighbourhoods in which they have settled and where their children attend school.

Tenants will try to absorb the benefit cut by reducing expenditure on other necessities or will fall into rent arrears, opening the way to eviction. Those who do decide to move out will find that there are few if any council properties to meet their assessed needs, forcing them into the arms of the more expensive private rented sector.

This Saturday 'Make some NOISE !! ... The UK government has the 'bare face' cheek to demand that 'we' the people be penalised under the 'Bedroom Tax' - this is OUR opportunity to tell them 'what we think' of their bedroom tax ! Scrap the Bedroom Tax !!

Poverty, homelessness, unemployment & hunger - what is to done ?

The chancellor George Osbourne in his forthcoming budget will 'tell us' yet again he is preparing to place his faith in 'Quantitative Easing'.

Lets study this for a moment - who will benefit from 'Quantitative Easing' ?

* Will it provide food on the table for those struggling - forced to use foodbanks ?
* Will it help ordinary people pay for high fuel bills ?
* Will it give low paid workers a living wage?

The simple answer is : NO !!

This budget will serve to help & protect the richest 10 per cent, on average a £127,000 better off and the poorest tenth £310 worse off.

The Conservative Party wants you to believe we're all feeling the pain & we're all in this together - the reality is this government cares more for millionaires - the 1% in our society.

The Tories are using 'economic, political deception' to deceive the British electorate. Quantitative Easing pumps money directly into the financial system inflating shares in the stock market; it doesn't reach the 'real' economy - it doesn't reach 'your' pocket !

The majority of wealthy people work in the financial system and benefit through bonuses, stock options etc !

Let's expose the hidden agenda & deception - capitalism created this economic crisis !!

* The Eradication of capitalism.
* A government for the people by the people with an alternative, economic & political strategy.

People are homeless, with no jobs, no hope & no money to feed the kids.

We can't continue to survive on 'foodbanks' & working for 'dole' money - that is not a way to govern a country & to protect it's people.

Capitalism is chronically failing millions of people everyday, while the 1% in society are doing very well out of this recession/ depression - millions are looking at suicide for an escape to the misery of chronic poverty, unable to eat, no home to live, no job & yet governments promise the masses 'trickle down economics' will solve the problem.

We need jobs, we demand quality in life, we demand the ability to live in dignity, we are not animals, we are not vermin - we're human beings.

A government is suppose to provide a standard of living, protection & opportunity to provide for their kids - an adequate welfare state to protect when required.

Criminality at work, David Cameron & the Conservatives along with Liberal Democrats are systematically destroying our 'welfare state'.
